A National Park and a lovely day out. There are ferry boats going from Srebreno and Mlini for about 7 Euros (approx. 50 KN) return, but they will negotiate if you try or if there is a group of you. There is also a 5 Euro (approx. 40KN) charge when you land on the Island, per person.
The island has a large monastery, mostly now in ruins and gardens with peacocks walking round. If you would like some gentle excercise and to visit www.kojankoral.com for an off-road segway experience or you can rent a bike whilst visiting. Swimming is off the ruged rocks, with steps to help you in and out of the water.
The main draw to the island for us are the reasonable priced boat trip, the shaded café bars and the large deep lagoon. You sit and watch ‘mad people’ jumping and diving from various ledges off the cliff face, and then realize they are members of your own family! Swimming in the warm lagoon is also fun.
The facilities on the island aren’t extensive but there are a couple of café bars (one selling snacks), clean public conveniences and showers. Ideally take a picnic.
Tip: The ferry boat runs to a time table but it ran half an hour late when we last went, and we also hadn’t realised that on the way home we went via Cavtat and Mlini. It was lovely sailing as the sun was setting, but do check on return arrival times so you can plan. You will find a seasonal timetable with the excursions in your accommodation.
