POČITELJ

Počitelj is mentioned in records dating back to the 1400’s as an important defensive stronghold against Ottoman invasions, built by Bosnian King Stjepan Tvrtko. The town is crowned by a 15th Century fort that reminds you of a villain’s hide out, accessed through charming cobbled streets lined with local street vendors with honey and fruit and souvenirs.

ABOUT POČITELJ

Pocitelj makes a convenient and interesting stop, on your way to or from Mostar.

We don’t rate it as a ‘must see‘ attraction but if you are passing then why not see this charming little town steeped in history?

The town is crowned by a 15th Century fort that reminds you of a villain’s hide out, accessed through charming cobbled streets lined with local street vendors selling honey and fruit and souvenirs – of course!
There are quite a few steps to climb but there are great views at the top of the Nereta River and the surrounding basin. So worth it!

There is a lovely little bakery and some restaurants near the parking area for refreshments, or if you want a cheaper option help yourselves to the wild pomegranates if you are visiting during September/October.
