‘Traditional to the core’, is how I would describe lovely Restaurant Stara Hercegovina with friendly welcoming service.

Open day and all year round makes it a favourite with locals, tourists and passers-by. Located high in the mountain on the road between Bosnia and Montenegro makes it a great stop for dinner if you are travelling back from a day in Kotor.

In the winter Restaurant Stara Hercegovina is warmed by the fire in hearth and with a lovely local atmosphere, all centred round a huge tree trunk In the middle of the room. Warming lamb stew, steak with a mushroom sauce, fish and lots of local dishes and salads too, at wonderfully cheap prices.

In the summer guests spill out onto a large, terrace with different levels and thatched roofed covered dining areas, to make the most of the slightly cooler air that the mountains can offer.

From Ivanica the journey is about 20 mins, please see the directions below.

Head over the Bosnian border and travel towards Trebinje, at the sharp corner, with a circular looking restaurant on your right ( also worth a stop especially if you are too hungry to travel further)and a petrol station, turn right and head up the mountain towards Montenegro. Carry on this road for a good 5-8 mins until you come into a small village area and you will see the restaurant on your left.

It doesn’t seem very far on the way home as it is all down hill !
